Sump Pump Installation & Repair

A sump pump is the last line of defence against a wet basement. We install and service them properly — correct pit, correct discharge routing, and a check valve so water doesn’t flow back in.

What Sump Pump Service Involves

A sump pump collects water gathered by your foundation drainage — whether that’s an interior perimeter drain, exterior weeping tile, or a low point in the basement floor — and pumps it out to a safe discharge point away from the house. We install and replace sump pits and pumps, sized correctly for the volume of water your property actually deals with, and route the discharge line so it empties well clear of the foundation instead of just a few feet away where it can seep right back in. A check valve is installed on the discharge line so water can’t flow backward into the pit between pump cycles, which reduces wear and keeps the pump from short-cycling.

For basements where losing pump power during a storm is a real risk — which is exactly when you need the pump most — we can also set up a battery backup system that keeps the pump running through a power outage. If your existing pump is old, running constantly, making unusual noise, or you’re not sure it would keep up in a heavy storm, it’s worth having it assessed alongside your drainage system as a whole; see our basement leak repair page if you’re already dealing with water getting in.

What’s Included

  • Sump pit and pump installation or replacement, sized to the water volume your drainage system needs to move.
  • Discharge line routing that carries water well away from the foundation instead of letting it re-enter the soil nearby.
  • Check valve installation so water can’t flow back into the pit between pump cycles.
  • Optional battery backup so the pump keeps running if the power goes out during a storm.

What to Expect

  1. Inspection & assessment. We check your existing pump (if any), the pit, discharge routing, and how the drainage system feeds it.
  2. Written estimate. A clear scope and price before any work is scheduled.
  3. Pit preparation. A new pit is set or the existing one is cleaned out and inspected.
  4. Pump & discharge installation. The pump, check valve, and discharge line are installed or replaced.
  5. Test & walkthrough. We run the system to confirm it cycles properly and walk you through how it works.

When to Call Us

A sump pump is easy to ignore until the moment it fails. Call sooner if any of the following applies:

Get it looked at promptly if: your basement has a history of water but no sump pump installed, your existing pump runs constantly or makes grinding or rattling noises, the pump failed or couldn’t keep up during a recent storm, or you want battery backup protection for the next power outage.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if I need a sump pump?

If your basement has any history of water intrusion, or you have a drainage system feeding into a low point in the floor, a properly installed sump pump is usually the mechanism that actually moves that water out. An inspection can confirm whether one is needed.

What happens if my sump pump fails during a storm?

Without a working pump, water your drainage system collects has nowhere to go and can back up into the basement. That’s the scenario a battery backup is designed to prevent, since heavy storms are also when power outages are most common.

How much does sump pump installation cost?

It depends on whether it’s a new pit or a pump replacement, and whether battery backup is included. We provide an exact written estimate after seeing your setup during the free inspection.

How often should a sump pump be serviced?

Regular checks help catch a failing pump before it matters. Our sump pump maintenance checklist covers what to check and how often.

Can you replace just the pump and keep my existing pit?

Often, yes, as long as the existing pit is in good condition and correctly sized. We’ll assess it during the inspection and tell you honestly whether it can be reused or should be replaced.
